Derbyshire WISH is a supported housing project which provides emergency, short term refuge for women & children experiencing domestic abuse. We are part of the Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Consortium and all referrals for our refuge and community based services are via their support line - see above for details.

Derbyshire WISH was established in 1995 and is owned by Nottingham Community Housing Association. We provide comprehensive care and support to meet international standards ISO 9001.

We offer a range of different accommodation to meet support needs of a wide range of individuals and families. Dispersed accommodation is available for males and also can accommodate larger families. In some cases we are able to accept pets.

Accommodation

  • One 7 bed and two 3 bed shared refuges  (women and children only). Residents have their own room but share communal facilities including kitchen, lounge and bathroom
  • Secure indoor play area and outdoor activity area (shared refuge)
  • 15 community based properties for men or women (pets accepted with prior agreement)
  • Fully furnished
  • Easy access to local towns
  • All accommodation is maintained to the highest standard
  • Experienced, specialist children’s worker to support both shared refuge and community properties

Support offered

  • To establish individual safety planning – including support to access assistance from other agencies where required
  • To move on to safe independent living, including support to access alternative accommodation
  • To gain, enhance and develop life skills e.g. increased confidence in managing tenancy and finances
  • To gain advice in accessing local facilities e.g. doctors, solicitors
  • Opportunity to access support to increase confidence and self-esteem. This includes in-house courses and counselling service (counselling for adults only)

Support and advice

  • Support planning and risk assessments tailored to meet individual needs for both adults and children
  • Named keyworker for each individual
  • Out of hours support provided by the NCHA SMaRT service (Support Management and Response Team)

Service user involvement

  • Encouraged to be involved in maintaining a pleasant and safe environment
  • Involvement in producing support package
  • Respect for choices, privacy, confidentiality and promotion of equalities and diversity
